Homeward Bound

God, as I have said, did many wonderful things in my life, so much so that I'm accustomed to hearing His voice. Yesterday, my mother fell sick. She got severe rashes, fever, and flu. I was at Danielle's birthday celebration, but had to leave early as my dad planned to pick her home with me.

Today after church, I told my friends and cell leader that because she is unwell, I want to leave early to ask on her. I asked God if He could help me quicken my journey home, and I somewhat got the idea of walking faster, or I'll have to run.

I managed to catch the MRT from EXPO just as it was about to leave.

At Tanah Merah MRT station, 1minute was all I had to wait for the train to arrive.

At Tampines MRT Station, I was told to walk even faster.

I found myself running after bus 27, which was a direct bus to the street I stayed at.

And thus, with smooth traffic, I took around 35 minutes to reach home. And by then I saw that my mother had almost recovered, and was fit enough to work normally.

Praise God.

Long time no post here already. From the previous post till now, all my other posts are put here.

Back to business.

This post is about the annual band test, compulsory for all band-its. It was my turn today. I knew that God was with me right from the time I learnt the instrument, and so He was today.

I sat down in the test room, and I was supposed to be nervous, but I wasn't.

Earlier today, the thought of 'birthday' kept on ringing through my mind. I couldn't make out what that was for.

Just before my seniors told me to start, I had a feeling that Concert Bb was going to be tested, and it was - for interval studies, quavers in staccato, 2 octaves (so many conditions). And immediately after that, I was running through the scale of Concert B, where every note is sharpened (and thus the playing is more difficult to perfect). Just as I finished running through the scale, my seniors told me:

"Play erm..Concert B, minims 1 octave."

And so I did. With a few mistakes though.

The set piece was also saw guidance from the Lord.

I practised one part of the piece very thoroughly, because I knew I had to practise that part, and it got tested. And after that little segment was tested, my eyes chanced upon part 'J' of the piece. And a few seconds later, that got tested as well.

The sight reading piece was given to me 5 minutes before entering the test venue.

Remember that I just said, during the course of the day, the word 'birthday' kept on popping up in my mind? My birthday's on the 7th of July. I was born in the night (20:47).

The sight reading piece was entitled 'The Seventh Night of July'.

The power of God, isn't it just so amazing.

The Taste of Dessert

Earlier today my mother brought me to a tea lounge at Orchard Road, and I greatly enjoyed their Green Tea Tiramisu. Although bitter, it tasted pure.

Later today, we went to fetch my brother, who came back from SHHK's Combined Sports Meet. Yixun has got into some trouble lately, and all of which, to his accounts, are not his fault. No one in the family really believed him, for he was known for lying. Almost everyone, except for me. And somehow, I did not know what to tell him whenever he confides that 'she ask me go meet her after school, just because I picked up my eraser from the floor'; 'I'm blamed for something I don't know'; 'I was punished for holding a rubber band'; 'mom keeps on stopping me from using the phone'.

At the dinner table, he was really moody, exceptionally moody. He didn't complain today though.

"May I speak to Yixun please?"

It was his classmate.

They spoke on the phone for quite a while, and they could, since my mother was showering. When they're done, he said 'put your hands up,' while holding the cordless phone like a tommie gun. He told me to 'say that you're sorry' and sniggered.

'For whot?'

'For typing. (:'

'You typed before.'

'Ok I am sorry. Now say that you're sorry.'

'Oh Alright. I'm sorray. Awkay?'

'Very good. Now you're gonna get shot.'

I didn't really know what he said on the phone, but I guess his friend knew what to tell him when he confided. What can I do as his sibling? How can I change the family's perception of his behaviour? And how will it all turn out, if I ever can?

Some people are just like the taste of the dessert.

Although bitter, it really tasted pure.

Today's band practice did give me quite a surprise.

Normally, my section tutor - the one whom I've screwed up with - would come on Tuesdays. It just happens that every Tuesday, I would have AEP lessons, and hence have not met him for a long time. This week is Sabbatical Week, so there aren't any lessons, just sabbatical courses.

Today's band practice took place on a Tuesday afternoon.

"Adrian will be coming."

I jumped.

I couldn't believe that I would have to see him again so soon, and I didn't know what to anticipate. I wondered whether he could remember who I was and for what I did; I wondered whether he would get petty and throw a tantrum like he did last time; I wondered and wondered, and whispered a quick prayer. Just then the sectional room door opened.

"Good morning guys." That was fast.

"Eh? Have I seen you before?...you're in.."

"Sec 2."

"Ah ok. Everyone take a seat."

He didn't even realise that it was me, the guy who made him so mad one November morning.

Well, he didn't realise that till he asked for my name.

"Ok Daniel, play." *Section-mate Daniel plays a couple of notes*

"You play..eh? What's your name?"

I hesitated.

"Yihan."

"Oh..it's that guy who I scolded right? Haha."

Just a light laugh. And that's all.

Things were back to normal. Just no more tension, no more mistrust or doubt. That was easy. I settled down into the chair.

"Ok, Yihan, play."

And I played the couple of notes. For the first time, I thought I sounded great.

It was around 11.05am.

Our conductor walked into the SALT Main Hall. He was in a trifle lil' bad mood.

I heard that he threw a chair at the JC Band on Friday.

He told us about Catholic High Band, whose conductor, Mr David Gloss, refused to conduct band practices until they were fully ready. And soon they were. Now they are ahead of us. He will not allow them to stay behind Hwa Chong. And he achieved that.

For now.

So Mr Leng asked us if we had all our scores. We had to take them out and show it to him, including the warm-up pieces. Most people could do so, but our oboist, did not have. When questioned, he said 'Shang Yang (oboe senior) has the score'.

Mr Leng has said before that he hated excuses. Who likes them anyway.

"Say that again."
"Huh?"

"I want you. To say that again."

"Er."

"Everyone, hear what Chen Yang has to say."

"Er..."

"SAY IT!"

"Shang Yang has the score."

With that, he threw his conducting baton on the carpet, and walked out of the room.

Seriously, it's not entirely Chen Yang's fault, not to mention my Adrian Chong case, for those who heard about it last year. I got much worse than he did xD According to Joseph, it's because Shang Yang was instructed by Joseph to bring back Chen Yang's scores for photocopying, and that happened on Friday. It turned out that on Saturday, Shang Yang had some CIP Activity and could not come for band. Shang Yang had the scores, and despite them knowing that Mr Leng wanted all the have scores, it ended up with Chen Yang not having any.

We have to prove that HCIBand is a class of elites. We did that last year with Gold-With-Honours in SYF. I just can't seem to get my skills right. But, there's a way to get them right.

Sadly, the only way I can, is through Adrian Chong.

Oh gawde. How am I supposed to even talk to him. x.x

And so I'm stuck in this loop. I don't want to but I need to have Adrian Chong. For HCIBand's sake?

Sure.

Welcome to a new subject for us: Malay Studies. T.T

The dialogue above took place on the second lesson.

This new subject is just so really hard to learn. I can see that Mastura is tryin to teach us real good, but the lesson stays for one hour, then slowly vanishes. It is my malay notebook that helps me regurgitate the stuff.

For our homework due in Lesson 3, we're to learn '1 - 10' in Malay through YouTube. The keyword is 'Mari Mengira'. I tried to find for a better vid. But this is the closest I could get.

Can you catch the first couple of sentences he said? I can only catch something like 'satu saheng sepuluh' (1 to 10?) and something like 'sama-sama'. ('Same')

I watched it on Tuesday, and today I've to watch it again just in case I forget everything tomorrow. Now I wonder how I managed to grasp the subjects Chinese and English. Maybe it's cos I was a toddler then? Learning Malay is something I'm still trying to cope with.

And by far I still find Malay quite hard to digest.

I was wondering. Why in all these years, living on land that belonged Malaya; the only thing I could confidently do in Malay was the National Anthem. Maybe some other International Friendship Day song...but other than that it's nothing.

Recently I've came upon a couple of peculiar incidents. Both happened in my HDB's elevators.
This might be another formal-like, wordy post..
Let me start with the one that happened just now. :X

On the first floor, this guy was waiting for the lift. Now he looked familiar, and usually people take longer to recognise me than for me to recognise them. I figured that he was from my first art class. I was sent to this art class after my parents got frustrated with me drawing on every piece of paper I could find. This guy was my then art-classmate; he saw me.

Sometimes when people see you and they know who you are, but you've been very distant from them for a very long time, it's not easy to just say 'hi' and ignite a conversation.

It's happening now.
He saw me, and he took a good long look at me. That means he knew who I was. I still remember that on the last Christmas I was classmates with him, we were to exchange presents. Somehow we were close friends then, and he gave a card to me, which I still have with me now.

I was 5 years old then. His name is Kevin.
I saw him. Yet we didn't speak.

Now onto the next incident.
In the lift again.

On the ground floor. Two people walked in. A lady and a girl. I was standing near the button panel, so I asked them which floor they'd want to go. We were like complete strangers, and the lady told me '6th storey'.

Might not seem like much to you. But the thing is, I live on the 6th storey as well. Neighbours we are, but strangers we are as well.

Whoo. If you've read Trevor's posts at 'simplytrevor', you'll realise all the insightful and in-depth posts; unique and creative. Well yesterday (Sunday), a couple of my cousins got down to St. Anne's Church.

We aren't catholics, so why go?

Went thr to visit our uncle x) in the columbarium.

It's been a long time since we last went thr. Now this reminds me of April, the month of his passing. This reminds me of how I really began to start disliking band. If you've not heard of the story, here it is.

It was the 14th April, 2009, Tuesday. After school, band practice was scheduled to be from 2.30pm to 6pm. (Btw 13th April was the day I put on my braces). So I was having a hard time with the saxophone.

Then at 5:11pm, I received an SMS from my mother, which read: "come down to the mscp asap. uncle david is in critical condition." Went to ask the conductor if I could take early leave. Told him that it was urgent. That it was about my dying uncle.

Maybe it was just my bad luck. He happened to be scolding the percussion section. Really badly. His response to my request? 'shut up and sit down. you are a band. you come and leave as a band.' Back then, what choice did I have? I sat down and waited. And waited.

Near 6pm, my mother came up from the car park. It was only in her presence that I could leave. While rushing down at Bukit Timah Road, which was suffering from the peak hour jam, she received a call from my 1st uncle. He broke the news.

My uncle died on 14th April, 2009, Tuesday, of Metastatic Carcinoma of the Esophagus, at 18:09, although the death certificate recorded it as 17:50, as he still seemed to be breathing for that 19-minute discrepancy.

Anyways, after our visit at St. Anne's, we got down to Anchorvale Swimming Complex, and being the first time thr, it's really a replica of the Sydney indoor swimming complexes. (:

1A1's Class Outing

It was the 11th of November. We were to meet in Pasir Ris at 1pm. A few of us had EP3s in school, so we could only go much later. I was supposed to collect class tees from the vendor. Afterwhich we met with the other Acerians at Downtown East's MacDonalds.

Checked into unit 1717. expected a 2 storey..but only had 1. xP

Afterwhich it was free and easy (for the rest of the outing). Hua Ying and his clique went to E!Hub to get some drinks. There was TV, Duel Masters for some ppl (wad's so fun bout it anw) and UNO for the rest. Enjoyed the Indian Dramas a lot x) Dancing around poles and singing ~~nonsense~~.

Then we slacked around in the chalet till it's time to collect the BBQ stuff (YJ paid $200 for that kay.) Had a great time BBQing. Nvr felt such class spirit before (: At around 6-7pm, headed out of chalet and began wif the sweet potatoes, which were never eaten, then the satay, the garlic bread, the cooked pineapple rice, the nuggets and the fishballs, some otah, and that's all we ate.

Hua Ying burnt his arm hairs once :D and Alston had the tendency of throwing any food dropped on the floor - into the BBQ fire (: For many times they'd put too much fire starters and get the BBQ flame into a bonfire, and that burnt the food (which would go into the fire as well). The aluminium foil that caught fire would be thrown by Alston onto the grass and put out.

The BBQ was not even 1/3 eaten. From the neighbouring chalets came not-yet-eaten otah, utensils, food and more food. I had a hard time distributing class tees :D first time I felt like an Ethan.

Went back into the chalet for more slacking, gaming, and Alston's private issues. YJ had a hard time collecting the money for BBQ oso...as well as keeping the 2/3 remainder of unethan food. People who did not stay over gradually went home. Hwa Jin annoyed Denzyl by tellin him bout the Red House at Pasir Ris. (http://www.sgfreakylinks.com/the-pasir-ris-red-house/)

After all who's staying over is left, we went to E!Hub, only to realise that the KBox, Cinema, and arcades are left open. So they arcaded (Guo Yue spent so much money just to get enough tickets to exchange for a pen/drink). Then we went back and Hua Ying, Hwa Jin, Denzyl, Guo Yue and the occasional Nigel, played poker from 11pm to 3.50am.

Wei Heng wanted to sleep at 11pm, but ended up sleeping at 4. xD At 3.50pm, Nigel wanted to wait for another 10min to get to MacDonalds to hav breakfast. Afterwhich, without sleeping, they came back to play more poker (: The rest of us had quite normal sleep..and I slept the most (: In the morning after a Singaporean Kopitiam Breakfast I had wif Alston, we all got back and got into uno, TV, and Duel Masters.. again ==

Alston had a great time farting, which smelt like onions. :P

At around 10.30am, we packed up and checked out.

Yes, this was a class outing. ~~A monotonous one for a start~~ :] But this shows how friendship is to us. 2D 1N, but it's a time when YJ could see how we all slept, see how reactive Alston was at night, see how does Hua Ying emo..and on and on. So to come to think of it, it wasn't too boring.

Anyone wants another one, this time even longer? (:

The day of Aphelion Day Rehearsal. 29 Oct'09.

Had to leave early.

I went to the NYGH Bus Stop and waited for Bus 74.

After some time, this guy was standing with a mobile in his hand, and oogling at this Sec4 guy...and me. Didn't realise it at first.

Only when he played loud music from his mobile, I noticed him. It was the 远近闻名的Bishan Gay. Oo ghees. Then he tried to take a vid or sth, paning from head to toe. Really freaky. I took refuge amongst a group of Nanyang girls, and the Sec4 guy hid behind the bus signboards.

Thought that it was all over. But somehow, after sometime, he appeared next to us again. This time round he drew circles in the air - circling the abdominals of the two of us. His bus 156 came but didn't board. x.X

Today I met into yet another encounter with an Indian. If you'd want the details, I'll say his a short guy with stumpy legs, and large sweaty manboobs. But anyways, I was at Hougang MRT Station, inside an MRT.

There was an unusually high number of people exiting, and since the MRT was packed, some people and I were standing near the MRT door. When those people were alighting, this indian guy came along and pushed me aside, mumbling some jibberish as though I was the only one blocking the way. This pushing made me almost fall onto a girl. Some people looked at that ignorant indian...and others were staring at me.

It was lyk if I forced my way in, it's as good as some other boarding passenger squeezing his way through alighting passengers. If I stepped out, I wouldn't be able to get back on, for the MRT emptied so much that as soon as the last few ppl left, the doors slammed shut.

Apologising, I took out my mobile and pretended to get back to normal things - things people would do on the MRT.

Embarrassing x)

Sometimes I just can't help but to support some good indian racism.

6Jay Class Outing

I know I lag a lot..cos the outing's on 13 June.
It was really fun. Because it was boring. (:

K some math here.
1/4 of the class said they couldn't come.
Around 1/8 of the class who said they could come didn't come.
There're 44 people altogether in 6J.

So..that means. 20+ people came.

Anw, we met in TaoNan, and Li Xuan was commenting about me and how much I changed-.-Thanks man.

Darren got more sick, but claimed to be single.
I'm not much better anyways. xD
Hm. Maybe I'll have to change proper.

We went to ECP..then we rented bikes. Only Sean forced Max to rent a double-bike with him. And rode for 1h+. Now. We could've cycled for 2hours, but some very nice people like Joel insisted that we had to return the bikes as a whole so that he can return home for lunch-.-

So the girls went to pester Sean to buy them each a cup of bubble tea. xD He was feeling so high when they're crowding around him. Too bad Zuo Min wasn't around to feel the same.

Then the group found a spot in Area C to settle down. Some chose to gamble..wif cards and sticks. And we owned that place till evening (: We played Ultimate Frisbee, Dodge, Captain's Ball..wif a frisbee again. Then it started to rain. *All cheers

Marine Bowl. The stupid management set a rule that we had to finish our games by 1330 cos they're closing. So we had around 1h to play..At first I tot they were going to have lunch or sth and open at 2.30..but noO They told me that they're closing till 3am. And Alex sponsored $50. I sponsored one dollar. =)

Tyvm (: Anyways Alex owned in the game. Again, too bad Zuo Min wasn't around to feel the same - I know you're a pro-bowler.

Alex scored way above Sean, who only got 31 thru the whole game XP. I'm not much better tho. Onli 40+ >.<

Then at 1330, we were forced to leave. Went back to Area C to re-own that plot of land. Guess what they did? Zuo Min's so gonna be envious.

They played frisbee again. K fine. I know you've a fragile heart Zuo Min (:
Went to lunch with Max, Sean, Jennifer and Shi Minn. Jen asked Max where's the black mark on his cheek from. Guess what Max did.

He looked at Sean and said 'Well some people here don't know how to cycle.' And slapped Sean. LOL. Then after lunch we returned. I realised that my bag was open..and Alex stole my water balloons. And the bag I use to contain my spare clothes.

We played two round of water wars. And we had to pay the toilet uncle $1.50 for him to let us use 7 small pails of water. And the whole class used the balloons up in less than 10min, when Alex, Joshua, Max and myself took lyk..1h to fill them up.

Then some of us played Truth or Dare. Max got me to take a gay pic with two girls each standing on my left and right ><>

The boys tried to mango KK and Trevor. Trevor's face went red..as usual. And the girls got so annoyed at Jonathan and Joshua that they whacked them till the twins dropped KK and Trev.

Then here's the climax...things became boring. Just sat around and slacked. Frisbee people went home. Many went home. Left with 8 of us. Then Max had no choice but to sacrifice his basketball and let us play wif it.

Then dinner at macs. *Sean's fries were all stolen by Joshua. *His burger was stolen by Jonathan. (:

So Yeah. That's abt it.

This One Loonie

Great lor.Today I got tortured in School Band for 8hours ~~only~~ straight. From 9am-5pm. ><
Then I squeezed into the Little India MRT Train. Guess what happened.

Like, there's this chinese guy, middle-aged, sitting on the 'Reserved Seat'. He looked all weird. When I stepped into the MRT, he yelled

"Haiyoh. Boye..Why you never zip your pants one. Later harh..people can see then you know har. You will die one leh! DIE AR!"

He gave me that sort of stupid, cock-eyed look and grinned to himself.
When in the first place, I was wearing PE Shorts.-.-

So I tried to tell him off la. Then one old man nearby (who's supposed to sit on the reserved seat but this loony plonked his fat ass on it before he could take the place, I think) signalled to me to keep quiet and watch what he's doing. I turned to look.

And I saw him digging his nose. And he picked out his noseshit, glued it onto his finger, stared at it, and gave it that sort of stupid, cock-eyed look again.

Felt like laffing on the spot though. XD
Imagine an adult doing this.

K anyways, the people around him (peak hour) were trying to ignore him. Then he wiped his finger on the chair ><

But then somewhere at Kovan station, he began to talk to himself.
He said something like "Why did she have to kill herself? Might as well let me kill her right! Herherheherherher..(that's how he laughs)". T.T

He didn't give a damn to who was staring at him. And the guy sitting on his left got so freaked out that he just left at Kovan. :D

This loonie left only at Hougang, removing his huge gluts from the seat then stumbled away, still digging his nose. And ynoe wad he said before he left?

I turned to look at him.

Instead, here's my solution:
Start> all programs> accessories> system tools> system restore

System Restore emofy your files, but restores your system to a previous selected date when everything was working normalli.

I was just working on another blog on Saturday, and it's lyk still under construction. Maybe most of you would regard it as erm. nerdy? I mean it would be stuffed with information, cos it's another study blog.

I can't reveal much at this moment, or it'll give the show away. ha.
Anyways, I'm running for the consortium council - i think most ppl find it lame, but we get lots of CIP Hours (fine Mediatech has more) for freeee. k I'm crapping again. And Sidetracking.

So yea, keep a lookout for this space, cos in around 2 weeks time I guess, I would be posting the URL in this blog. Not sure if you'll find it handy. It's a blog, but it might just as well function like a wiki site. You might find some of the resources there useful for work - esp if it's last minute, copynpaste sort of stuff (:

The Class Gathering this June for 6Jians: Im thinkin of having both ECP and Sentosa, lyk we go Sentosa first, do those attractions or maybe have lunch there...and then return to ECP where we can lyk book a BBQ pit and stay till nite, or even overnite. But I'm really not sure.

We'll need sponsoring, purchasin of the food. And more sponsoring. Sentosa ain't a cheap place, so lots of cash needed. I bet most of you would object, cos we're all not that rich. If not, it would be back to the same old Downtown East, where we mite want an overnite stay for a change?

Btw, one chalet (squeeze about 10 max) costs $350 in Downtown. $100 for BBQ Pit. So $450 in one night. Think it's possible? Nt sure. But I need your opinion.

Warf. I have never imagined that this day would actually happen...and happen to me. I was on my way home from my AEP lessons (with all that dumb, bulky stuff) and my journey was as follows:

1. Bus from school to Little India Station (NEL)

2. MRT from Little India to Sengkang Station

3. LRT from Sengkang Station to home.

So as I was boarding the train in Little India Station, the train was packed (with indians lah wad else)...er...sry for the racism :) I'm not trying to be racist, really. Because as I ran from door to door (all of them were filled right full), I couldn't find any space for me to stand, taking into consideration the bulky things I had.

Then. Alas. Finally. A spot.

That was good. =)

So I ran right into that door, only to be surprised to see an Indian lady with her husband at the doorstep. As I tried to halt (so as not to collide into them), the doors started to close. Could not break in time...then I tripped - towards the door, as it was closing.

Then I felt a firm grip. Guess whose? Not the husband's, but that Indian lady's. I looked up at her, as the doors slammed shut in just mere centimetres from my face. Of course lah, I thanked her...but her response? She just frowned and said "Wad did I do-ooo? (in that indian accent) Thanking me-ee?"

Dun know wad to say; so I just nodded. But she still had that cusory look - and she was staring right into my face. I tried to smile, and finally she did. (Woof...took her that long?)

Nevertheless, I'd really want to thank her for that strong pull which might have saved me from the untimely clutches of __________. (You fill it in yourself; death? decapitation? nvm...) You know, maybe I should change my title to "a lady saved my life"...but since Zuo Min wants in catchy, so hu cares that much anyways.

But seriously man, if it weren't for her, I would be dead crap by now. You would probably see me lying in the hospital's ICU (not Ms Lam's term for ppl lyk me who are very weak in compos...and are still housed in the ICU...) and with tubes stuck all over my body...wrists, nostrils...

No matter how small a deed that was to that lady, it has within itself, a profound connotation level to me. And right now, a question struck me: Should I bring fewer things for my AEP lessons in my future, because not everyone has the same kind heart as that lady?

Erm... I know that I am supposed to sleep right now...it's er 1.29AM on the clock... but I can't sleep. Don't know why though. Maybe it's because I am getting too emotional these few days (don't laugh :D ) and I think because I am having this sense of emptiness lying dormant in my memory cells, which seem to be rusty from neglect. (oops...1.32AM, and all I can type is this! And I thought I was a fast typist *sigh*)

This sense of emptiness - something that I cannot describe. I just have this mental photo montage replaying at the speed of a rickshaw - really slow...plod plod slow... And I really feel like reviving these dead memory cells. (1.33AM) I find that I cannot concentrate on my work and have to get to the keyboard to blog or read my class blog...that could be because I know that this emptiness is growing and growing...steadily, yet slowly. Well, but since I am feeling so....down right now (to put it that way), I have just found some stuff which you might find interesting :)... (1.35AM -_=")
